The Frosty Variety

The Frosty variety is currently under a Certificate of Deveolpment!
Amber and Emery Grove exhibited Frosties at the 2025 ANDRC Nationals in Columbus, OH for the membership vote to make the COD official. This vote does not make the color showable, it's part of the ARBA COD process before variety presentations can begin. If the presentations pass successfully, then the variety can be shown!
Our first presentation will be the 2026 ARBA Convention!
Frosty is also known as "Ermine." It will be accepted in Black, Blue, Chocolate, or Lilac. All four colors will show together in Group 5, AOV.
Frosty is an Agouti variety, think of it like combining a Chinchilla and an Orange! There are Tan Pattern and Self Frosties... but they don't have the ticking and are not included on the COD.
Help us make Frosty showable!

Proposed Standard

Color—The surface color will show a uniform distribution of ticked hairs over the entire animal with the exception of eye circles, underside of tail, belly, inside the legs, and nape of neck where white is expected. The ears and tail are frosted more heavily than the body. Ticking is acceptable in black, blue, chocolate, or lilac. Belly color and undercolor are to be light pearl to white. Eyes—Brown, blue-grey, or marbled. Ruby cast permitted.Faults—Lack of uniformity in surface color. Excessively dark color showing saddle shading.Disqualifications from Competition—Absence of ticking. Slate undercolor.Notes to Judges—Juniors may have a very light haze but should show some color development, especially on the ears.

Blue Frosty—A?-B?-cchd?-dd-ee
Chocolate Frosty—A?-bb-cchd?-D?-ee
Lilac Frosty—A?-bb-cchd?-dd-ee

Tan Pattern Frosties

Tan Pattern Frosties are called "Artic Foxes." They have the correct white markings, but their color is usually much darker and missing ticking.

Black Artic Fox—at?-B?-cchd?-D?-ee
Blue Artic Fox—at?-B?-cchd?-dd-ee
Choc. Artic Fox—at?-bb-cchd?-D?-ee
Lilac Artic Fox—at?-bb-cchd?-dd-ee

Self Frosties

Self Frosties look very, very similar to Sable Points. They don't have any ticking or white markings, and have dark points.

Black Self—aa-B?-cchd?-D?-ee
Blue Self—aa-B?-cchd?-dd-ee
Choc. Self—aa-bb-cchd?-D?-ee
Lilac Self—aa-bb-cchd?-dd-ee

The easiest time to tell if it's the right color or not is in the nestbox! Frosty kits are born solid white, and grow in ticking as they get older. Their ticking isn't fully done until their adult coat sheds in. Artic Foxes and Self Frosties are much darker, and will have saddle shading even as kits.
